The Mind's Eye

An oil painting in which my father plays a man losing his sight. A white fireplace, a glowing red snooker-cue case in the hearth, a photo book on the floor — movie tropes arranged as an implied story, left ambiguous for the viewer to finish.
While I composed the scene, my father told me a surprising story; I left a reference to it in the painting, too obscured to read through the static image alone. That gap — what a single still can't hold — is what later pushed the work into virtual reality. See A Hidden Narrative.
