Virtual Reality Simulator

I had the unique opportunity to contribute to a pioneering VR simulation project for the Irish Defence Forces, developed in collaboration with Kongsberg. This immersive, real-time VR environment is one of the first of its kind worldwide, specifically designed for armored crew training. Built on Kongsberg’s ReACT platform, it integrates the PROTECTOR RWS (Remote Weapon System), offering a fully interactive training experience that enables personnel to simulate complex scenarios with high fidelity.

In my role as an Environment Artist, I focused on creating highly optimized hero assets, maintaining strict control over polygon counts, texture sizes, and draw calls to ensure the simulator’s seamless performance in real-time. This project emphasized efficiency and technical precision, as the simulator was engineered to support intensive training with reduced environmental impact and significant cost savings.

The project has been a game-changer for the Irish Defence Forces, enabling enhanced readiness and training flexibility, with an expected improvement in training knowledge retention by 80% and substantial cost savings on resources. It was rewarding to work on a project with such a tangible impact on defense training, blending cutting-edge technology with practical, real-world application. Above I have added some of the assets from this and other similar VR training projects.
